Informationists are often working on several evidence synthesis projects and attend to these projects in the order in which they are received. Researchers should contact the library a minimum of six to eight weeks before they hope to begin screening abstracts.
Depending on existing informationist workload, new projects may be added to a waitlist. Requestors will be provided with an estimated start date. Informationists will work on one project per project lead/faculty lead. Once the literature searches are completed, research teams may need an additional nine to twelve months (or more) to complete the review.
An informationist may decline a request for assistance due to existing workload, concerns about project feasibility, or failure of research team to respond to proposed revisions to the project plan.
The informationists at the Welch Medical Library offer three levels of service for systematic reviews and other evidence synthesis projects.
All faculty, staff, students, and researchers in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, School of Nursing, Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the Johns Hopkins Health System* are eligible for the Level 1: Consultation and PubMed Search service.
Level 2 and 3 Review services may only be requested by full-time Johns Hopkins faculty members with an appointment in the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, or the Bloomberg School of Public Health. Faculty can place requests on behalf of Johns Hopkins students or trainees but will be expected to participate in meetings where substantive aspects of the project are discussed. If at any time the primary faculty member disengages, the informationist team reserves the right to discontinue the services.
If you are collaborating with researchers from outside institutions, please note that at least one member of the review team must be currently affiliated with Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, School of Nursing, Bloomberg School of Public Health, or the Johns Hopkins Health System. This does not include alumni or former staff/faculty, courtesy faculty, and does not include faculty/staff/students from the other Johns Hopkins campuses unless there is a joint appointment with one of the three aforementioned schools.
Responsibility of the requestor:
If you have any questions about eligibility, please contact Associate Director of Informationist Services Beth Whipple.
