Citations are a way of documenting where we found important concepts/ideas that we used in our own work.
There are 2 types of citations:
- In-text citations: these are citations that are found within the text of your paper, right next to the information that needs to be cited
- There are some key elements of complete in-text citations.
- Located within the text of the paper
- Contains the last name of the author(s), date of publication, and page number if applicable
- Citation information is added before the period within parentheses in the sentence where the information is included
- Full citations: this is usually found at the end of your paper as an alphabetical large listing – it is sometimes referred to as interchangeably as bibliography or reference list.
