Finding Health Statistics

The purpose of the 500 Cities Project is to provide city- and census tract-level small area estimates for chronic disease risk factors, health outcomes, and clinical preventive service use for the largest 500 cities in the United States. These small area estimates will allow cities and local health departments to better understand the burden and geographic distribution of health-related variables in their jurisdictions, and assist them in planning public health interventions. Data can be extracted and used with GIS software.

The AHRF is a collection of health data resource products that draw from county-level databases that are assembled annually. Sponsored by Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA).

National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS), Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Servies System's (MIEMSS) Facility Resources Emergency Database (FRED), and American Community Survey (ACS) 2018 5-year estimates.

This survey, conducted in fall 2014, is a follow up to the 2009 Baltimore Community Health Survey. Total respondents: 1,722 Baltimore City adults living across the city. (980 residents by landline, 742 by cell phone; 61% - Black, 32% - White, 7% - Asian, Hawaiian/Pacific
Islander, or American Indian/Alaskan Native.)

The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Virtual Data Unit (VDU) is the central hub for all departmental health data. Data formats vary and include tables, maps, reports, and portals. Portals are interactive and allow users to query data and generate tables, graphs, or maps.​

Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) is the collection, integration, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of data from environmental hazard monitoring and from human health effects surveillance. Trust for America's Health (TFAH) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to saving lives by protecting the health of every community and working to make disease prevention a national priority. TFAH has state-specific public health data.

For nearly 3 decades, America’s Health Rankings has provided an analysis of national health on a state-by-state basis by evaluating a historical and comprehensive set of health, environmental and socioeconomic data to determine national health benchmarks and state rankings. America’s Health Rankings employs a unique methodology, developed and annually reviewed and overseen by a Scientific Advisory Committee of leading public health scholars. The data in the report come from well-recognized outside sources such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, American Medical Association, FBI, Dartmouth Atlas Project, U.S. Department of Education and Census Bureau.

CHIS is the nation's largest state health survey and a critical source of data on Californians and on the state's various racial and ethnic groups.

A Kaiser Family Foundation site that provides statistics on more than 500 health topics for each state.

SHADAC allows users to customize tables and graphs of health insurance coverage estimates within a pre-defined set of parameters. The Data Center is a user-friendly and easily accessible way to get health insurance coverage estimates from the Current Population Survey's Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS) and the American Community Survey (ACS).

The AHRQ's State Snapshots provide graphical representations of state-specific health care quality information, including strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. The goal is to help state officials and their public- and private-sector partners better understand health care quality and disparities in their state. State-level information used to create the State Snapshots is based on data collected for the National Healthcare Quality Report (NHQR).

Chronic diseases are responsible for 7 in 10 deaths each year, and treating people with chronic diseases accounts for many of our nation’s health care costs. CDC’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) helps states collect data on chronic diseases and leading health indicators through a variety of surveillance systems.
