Finding and Using Images

"VisualDx is a diagnostic decision support system designed by clinicians to aid medical professionals in the diagnosis of visually identifiable diseases. It provides instant access to specialist knowledge at the point of care, merging medical images with concise clinical text. As a visual clinical decision support tool, VisualDx uses specific patient data to develop a visual differential diagnosis. The clinician enters patient symptoms and other clinical findings, such as lesion type, body location, medical history, medications, etc. VisualDx displays images and key clinical information on all relevant diagnoses for a quick side-by-side comparison to the patient."

The Chesney Archives maintains a collection of over 1,500 reels of motion picture film, 7,000 video tapes, and 8,000 audiotapes and discs.
Moving images mostly represent productions created within Johns Hopkins Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health for clinical, diagnostic, educational, or documentary purposes.
Also included are personal film collections from faculty and staff associated with Johns Hopkins, moving images originating from individual departments, and commercially produced medical and educational films transferred from the circulating audiovisual collection at the Johns Hopkins Welch Medical Library.
Sound recordings include interviews, broadcast recordings, lectures and symposia, and recordings of other events at Johns Hopkins such as dedications, dinners, and ceremonies.

The medical archives holds over 1,000,000 photographic items dating from the late 19th century to the present. These collections reflect the daily use of photography within an academic health institution and encompass many genres, including biomedical, clinical, documentary, corporate, architectural, and portrait photography. The collections also encompass many historic and current photographic processes, including cased photographs, card photographs, photomicrographs, glass plate negatives and slides, albumen, platinum, and gelatin silver prints, color photographic prints, transparencies, and slides, digitally produced prints, and born-digital photographs.
